WHO WE ARE
Tamara Sawaya – founder, managing director
“My passion for photographs, people, and stories have informed much of my personal and professional life, and Forget-me-not is the natural outcome of these lifelong passions and investments. I grew up in a family that loved taking photos, and by the time I was in my twenties I was well on my way to chronicle, through photographs, the world around me.
The importance of labeling and archiving photographs became starkly evident to me one day when I came across a suitcase full of my grandfather’s glass plate negatives dating back to the 1920s. Most of these negatives were unlabeled, leaving me with very little access to or knowledge of the world captured by my grandfather’s lens.
I first made a career out of archiving and preserving photo collections when I joined the staff of the Arab Image Foundation, a not-for-profit organization based in Beirut whose mission is to collect, preserve, and study photographs from the Middle East, North Africa, and the Arab diaspora. During my twelve years as Collections Manager at the Arab Image Foundation, I was in charge of organizing, preserving, and rendering accessible the significant number of photographic collections that were housed at the Foundation.
Today, I am excited to bring you my expertise and my passion for photographs through Forget-me-not.
Let’s get started on taking care of your photos to build and preserve a long-lasting visual archive of your most cherished stories and memories!”
